Revelation 5

What we have in the book of Revelation is an explanation of the state of the world, and what's coming for us. John's point is that there is a higher throne than Caesar who had imprisoned him there.

Beyond all the disasters and vulnerabilities in this world there is a God who brings peace and purpose to us. That God has a complete yet secret and sealed plan. But God's plan cannot be executed unless the scroll John saw can be openend. Only someone who is worthy, who has moral goodness and authority can do so. No-one is human history can open this scroll and carry out God's plan. No-one is worthy.to establish justice and peace and bring hope to our broken world.

But then angels rejoice because there is one who is worthy. The great conqueror of heaven - Jesus. John saw Him not as a lion like the angels said but like a lamb who had been brutally murdered. Jesus, in this form, is the object of heaven's praise and worship. His righteous death is what gives Him authority to open the scroll and bring about God's plan for us.

The response of heaven to this truth is glorious! They burst into worship praising Jesus' worthiness and holiness. That Jesus is reigning now, even whilst our world falls deeper into darkness, and His light is coming one day to rescue us. And there is a lot more coming for us than just salvation. Every people and tribe will be saved to be a kingdom of priests to serve alongside Him. Because of Christ all the people of God can be like the traditional high priests who could be in His presence. We will be alongside Him forever in service and worship.

Jesus & God, the Father & Son share the praise and glory forever, for noone else is worthy.
